The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any prominent honors show draws close, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to honor unsung work and satisfy the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
